Spring brings an end to winter photographic hibernation. And this year’s hibernation ended a month ago with a thunderstorm.
The storm was producing a great deal of lightning after having passed by to the east. I set up on my apartment balcony with a tripod, a wide lens, and a wireless remote. Successive 4 second exposures with the camera aimed at active areas of the storm were captured in the hopes that some good lightning would be in that time interval and frame. And, thanks to the balcony roof, I stayed dry the entire time. As the storms receded further to the east, The view of the lightning I had moved away from directly seeing the bolts of plasma to illumination of the clouds in which the lightning discharged. This resulted in some other worldly images, which you can see in the photo set.
