Gallery: At the Zoo
On the last weekend of September, we visited the Minnesota Zoo. It was a beautiful afternoon and the gallery linked above has my photos from the day. It also gave me a wonderful opportunity to test out a brand new long zoom lens. I think the results speak very well for the lens.
A slide show of selected images are below. Please visit the gallery to see the full set. I hope you enjoy the photographs.
For anyone who might be interested in the specifics on the new lens, Nikon has recently released a new 55-300mm lens with vibration reduction for digital format cameras. It’s a very nice lens with a good zoom range. The images are clear and sharp, even at the full 300mm zoom. The vibration reduction is very helpful with those long focal length shots, often allowing hand held shots several stops below what one could normally hand hold (i.e. shutter speeds slower than the reciprocal of the focal length of the lens, which is the old and good rule of thumb for film 35mm cameras). The new lens replaces a 55-200mm lens, and the extra length is appreciated, especially someplace like the zoo. I’m quite satisfied with the results from the zoo (all the images in this gallery were taken with the new lens). I would recommend the lens to Nikon dSLR camera users who want a nice, but relatively affordable telephoto zoom lens.
